The Night the Sky Exploded and We Were On Stage

I don’t think I’ll forget this one for a long time.

The Hard Rock Casino, 4th of July

When the opportunity came up to play the Hard Rock Casino outdoor stage in South Lake Tahoe on the 4th of July, we knew it was going to be a special night. What we didn’t know was just how special it was going to feel.

From the moment we started playing the energy outside was just different. People were in a good mood. Laughing. Dancing. Meeting each other for the first time. There’s something about the 4th of July that just makes people want to connect, and standing on that stage watching it happen in real time was something else.

New Faces, Good Vibes

One of the best parts of the whole night was meeting new people. That’s what live music does, it brings strangers together and by the end of the night they don’t feel like strangers anymore. We met some incredible people at the Hard Rock that evening. People who had never seen the Residents Tahoe before, people who were just there for the holiday and happened to stumble onto something they didn’t expect.

That’s the whole point isn’t it. There is more that connects us than divides us.

When the Fireworks Went Off

And then the fireworks started.

Standing on stage when those fireworks went off. I have to be honest, everything felt surreal. The crowd in front of us. The music we were playing. And then the sky above South Lake Tahoe just exploding with color while we were right there in the middle of it all. It didn’t feel like a show anymore. It felt like a full on concert moment. One of those moments you look around and think, yeah, this is it. This is what it’s all about.

We were playing Freedom Ain’t Free and I looked up at the sky and thought, this is exactly what this song was written for.

South Lake Tahoe Does It Different

There’s nowhere quite like South Lake Tahoe on the 4th of July. The mountains, the lake, the fireworks lighting up the open sky — and the Residents Tahoe playing live on stage while it all unfolds around you. If you weren’t there this year put it on your list for next time. You’ll thank yourself.
